ABOUT

Carolyn Byrne dedicates her practice exclusively to matrimonial and family law, including custody, child support, maintenance/spousal support, and equitable distribution, among other matters.  While she vigorously pursues settlement options for her clients, she is prepared to take her cases to court, managing the litigation process from beginning to end with the goal of finding the fastest and most favorable resolution available for her clients.

To that end, Carolyn also believes in finding alternative dispute resolution methods for her clients upon request, including mediation, and parenting coordinator services.  Along these same lines, she offers her clients private, pre-litigation counseling and mediation “shadowing,”  among other one-on-one advisory services. She also assists her clients in the preparation and negotiation of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, as well as cohabitation agreements.

Carolyn’s background in business litigation affords her a tactical advantage both in and out of the courtroom.  She served as a litigation associate at both Battle Fowler LLP (merged with Paul Hastings LLP) and Vinson & Elkins LLP, which provided her with a strong background in all aspects of commercial litigation, especially forensic accounting and business valuation issues. This experience serves the firm’s matrimonial clients well, given the complex financial issues often presented, particularly in high net worth divorces.

In short, Carolyn is whole-heartedly committed to her clients during the difficult and emotional process of separation and divorce, which includes making herself available after hours and on weekends. She understands that the problems presented by a marriage in crisis can feel unmanageable and unnavigable at first.  But she draws on her years of experience to break the crisis down into smaller and more manageable issues, tackling them one by one in the most strategically advantageous sequence, and offering compassion and professionalism every step of the way.
